Intel ICH9 drivers

After that last big x64 update, including SP 2 I am getting BSOD on occaision attributed to Atapi.sys or Fltmgr.sys. It varies. I use DriverAgent to try and keep my drivers current, and it reports that almost all the drivers for the Intel Chipset ICH9 are now out of date. Checking them with Device Manager, I find that that almost all of them are a generic Microsoft Driver dated 2006. No matter how many times I install the Intel Chipset drivers, nothing ever changes. I am getting tired of the BSOD's in the middle of something important and would like to get the problem fixed. Anyone with any suggestions would be appreciated. I am using a Gigabyte P35-DQ6 motherboard.

Thank you

FIrst off, I'm not a big fan of programs like DriveAgent as I personally feel they're not always accurate. My opinion.

Those errors you're getting could also be indicative of an impending hard drive failure, so you need to look there as well. You might also check the SATA/IDE cables to and from the hard drive for looseness.

Also Intel's chipset drivers usually need to be installed right after the OS install, and if you've installed them initially, than I seriously doubt they're the problem.

Thanks for the info. I try to keep my drives in good shape and check them often but you never know. since I have 5 two sata and 3 usb, I am turning them off one at a time and will use the machine for several days and see of the problem happens again. Since it happens several times a day, it seems likely that 4 days with no problems would identify a problem drive, crude maybe and not for certain.

The latest version dated 7-12-09 is now posted on the Intel site, Download Software, Drivers and Utilities.

This is version 9.1.1.1015. The version before that 1014 was posted on 6-20-09. If they change versions that often I'm not aware of it. Could be that 1014 had problems.

I was having problems disconnecting an eSATA external hard drive before I downloaded this and the latest matrix storage manager (IATA88ENU.exe), so I'm not sure which one corrected my problem, but all is well now. Before I downloaded them my external drive was not showing up in "Safely Remove Hardware."

Maybe some of these suggestions given today from everyone will help.
