Installing vista

I want to reinstall vista, if i choose the option 'install clean copy vista' will it delete the files i have in my harddrive? like my videos ect.

Hello Dan,

Yes, a clean install will format and delete everything on the hard drive before reinstalling only Vista. You would want to backup anything that you do not want to lose first.

Thanks, the thing is i had a virus that messed things up, like block task manager, editing registry, i cant seem to shrink partition to backup.

really dont know what to do

normally c: is where vista is installed, but i boot up with windows 7 and it becomes c:

in the picture it only lets me shrink 940mb even though there's 240gb free?

Well i managed to use the upgrade option. (I had vista already install, so it was like a re-install)

Fixed a few problems but not all, i cant get into registry (regedit) and task manger, any advice?

Edit: found out how to enable regedit and task manager, getting back to normal now now just need to find out about the partition


By any chance, can i get registry default settings? Incase the virus i had did anymore changes.

Dan,

I'm happy to hear that you got it running again. The only way to get the default settings for the entire registry is from a clean install.

You can use System Restore points to return to certain dates of the registry, or create a manual full backup of the registry (current) to restore with though.

You may need to use a 3rd party partition program to acheive this easily. If you can post another screenshot of Disk Management without anything cut out, it may better help see what you may be able to do though.
