Installing Programs not on C:

If you install programs on a drive other the the C: drive....

and you reload windows, will they all work, or
are parts dlls, etc. put on the C: drive.

Had to reload windows and now I need to reload all my programs,
want to avoid this in the future if possible :D

Although we install programs on another partition or drive, there are critical things on the drive/partition where Windows is and your programs won't work if they are removed.

The best way to avoid having to reinstall all those programs is to create a hard drive backup using programs like Macrium, Acronis and others.

But if you create a HD BU of C:, and windows is messed up?
Restoring the HD will result in windows being still messed up?

Or am I missing something?

That's true. However, I was just trying to answer the generic question since it was given that you were going to reinstall the programs on a good copy of Windows. Note that I accidently said Adonis when I meant Acronis (must have looking at a picture of myself :D).

If you reinstall the OS, you have to reinstall the programs - regardless where they reside. If you want to avoid that, make an image of the OS partition and the partition with the programs after everything is installed and working. Then you can pull the images back in and need not reinstall in case of a catastrophe.

Getting everything back in order.
I was looking at the macrium reflect programs.
Will the free one do what I need, only major difference I see is
file / folder backup. What I need is a disk image, correct?

I think you want the disc image. You might look at the help file to see if you need something like opening an image file in Windows Explorer to restore the image. Usually Richc46 could provide more advice but I haven't seen him lately.
