Installer problem.

Hi,I am new on this Forum. About me, I have owned a computer for the past 18 years, starting with Windows 92 and most of the variants since, but I am not an expert.
My current model is a HP Pavilion,(Desktop) A6245N with 32 bit operating system and Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, also Office Home and Student 2007.
It is set up to automatically download all the Updates from Mictosoft.
At first everything was working fine, but now after one of the updates (don't know which one), every time I start (boot) the computer I get a small window on the monitor and message stating : Windows Installer preparing to install ... After a while it changes to: Install server not responding. If I click on Cancel, nothing happens. If I move the cursor arrow inside the message window, the arrow changes to a rotating disk.
All my programms seem to work properly. If I click on Outlook Express to read my mail, it opens on top of the notification window normally and when I click off Outlook, the notification with the rotating disk reappears. What is going on,:huh:I am stumped.

Have you tried a system restore to a date before this began to happen? System restore as I understand it will disable any updates that were installed after the date you restore too.

This is a complete guess, I'm only slight hobbyist, not a certified windows tech lol

But maybe an update is trying to install before windows starts, but needs to connect to the internet to finish? If your on wireless connection, have you tried plugging in a lan cable directly?

If it happens after your already in windows, can you figure out what the application/process is thats trying to update, Alt Ctrl Del, select taskmangager, see if it shows any applications running, or processes that don't look normal.

As Towel3 Said restore to a date before it happened but it won't disable the update it will uninstall the update.

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Towel3 and Shadowjk, thanks for trying to help. Right now here in South West Ontario is just past 9 am and I am rather bussy, will try to work on the computer in the evening. There is also a problem with Magnifier and Narrator, They appear on the screen when I boot, I have no use for them and I want to disable them both.

Hi motion1,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began (give it a little extra time if you can just to be sure). Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
