Install program from desktop

I'd like to install my copy of office 2003 from the desktop. How can that be done, please, experts? (I can't install from teh dvd because I have it zipped up there.) Whe I ask Vista Home Edition to install, it says it can't find the drive.

How surprising to find that Vista doesn't have install with uninstall on Settings.

Z

office can be installed from desktop easily if you have the space and the memory. unzip from dvd to desktop and double click the installer. I assume you cant do that for some reason, why?

The desktop is just another folder - same as Documents or Downloads. If you unzip it as zigzag says, find the installation.exe and double click on that. If it does not do it, there may be a problem with your installer.

Thanks very much zigzag and whs. When I do that - which I was doing before - a window opens offering the range of office 2003 programs. I click on Word, which I want, and then comes the message - giving the path! - which says it can't find the path.

How big is the file you are trying to open? enough memory to open?

What does it say in event viewer after you try to open the file.
to go to event viewer go to start>search>type event viewer>go to the windows log, application tab and look for errors (with red "X" in left column) that have the f ile in them. tell us what the error say

Loads of memory, Ken - 4mb of ram. Thanks for showing where event viewer is in vista. But no errors are shown.

I wonder if I put Word unzipped on a cd (or dvd), vista would be hapier to install it.

XP (like every other Window's OS) had the install/unistall thing in System. Pity it's not here.

This machine, which arrived today, has vista home. I wonder if I wouldn't be better putting XP on here instead? What do you think of vista? (If you don't mind me asking for your oinion.)
Cheers

Just hitting all the obvious suspects. If you decide to change OS'es I wouldnt go back to XP, I would go in the other direction to win 7. Its awesome

Thanks, Ken, but is windows 7 like office 2007 - particularly access 2007 - where we have to learn the whole thing all over again?
