It been awhile since I've been here last due to crash and burn of mobo and CPU. It's been a three long months since my demise but I finally got all my parts and my new rig is up and running. I'll be posting some pictures later. I still have some cable management to do. It's great to be back.

....I tippy-toe in from time to time and drop in via the chimney, but nobody leaves Whisky and plum-duff any more!

No, I've been absolutely and totally engaged in scanning hundreds of Family photos and archival documents, many from the mid-1800s and most from first 3 decades of the 1900s. It's been a massive job so far, and promises to continue. Scanning is just the first part, it's the later organising of documents and restoration of the photos that takes the time, but all well worth it as a 'Library' of a family's history emerges. It's all going onto a dedicated external hard-drive....with an incremental daily back-up, of course.

It never fails to amaze just how much 'old stuff' is sitting around in old shoe boxes, biscuit tins and Cabin Trunks.

Hope your cross-stitches have had a mood-swing to the better.:D

Mate!.....a collection that would do the British Museum proud, and archaeologists rapturous. Were I to put all truth in book form, it would be declared a work of fiction, given all the intrigue and events that have happened over the past 200 or so years.

With earliest origins around Biggar and Dumfries in Scotland, and later around Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, incredibly superstitious coincidences are regular events found throughout all the various family branch lines.....some, I am left just shaking my head at.

It is fascinating though, and gives one a greater sense of purpose and belonging, in knowing [as I have done for years] where one came from, and where family roots have been, and are now. It's kind of like tracking footprints back in time.

It definitely sounds like a fascinating archive you're building Tony good luck to you. It's not something I could do I did try to delve into my ancestry but as I was adopted when I was 3 it's not easy, at the time I tried I had to have Social Services helping out and we just came up against a brick wall when trying to track my parents, even though I have my original birth certificate.

I've now got to the age where I've given up worrying about my background and what ailments there might be, although it would have been nice to have prior warning that osteoporosis was in the family.

Oh and the cross stitch is doing OK just added a couple of photo's into my web site, got two back from the framers so put them in there.

You wouldn't credit it Joan, a relative but three generations back originated just a few miles from Tenby [her father was a Fisherman/Merchant Seaman], and with a surname of Richards and two very common female first names, has proved one of the most difficult of people to trace, especially in a locality where everyone was either Richards or Jones:huh:.

I can well imagine, although I'm not sure about the name Richards being that common around here, Jones, Evans or Williams are more common.

But to be honest this part of Pembrokeshire is always known as Little England beyond Wales because there are more English around than Welsh, you have to go a few miles further North to really be amongst the Welsh.:D
