IE9 !!!

I'm using Internet Explorer 9 now. I have Google as my home page.
In the Google search box I type a word and automatically hit enter but nothing happens. I actually have to go down to the word GOOGLE SEARCH before it acknowledges my entry. After I click on that, everything works fine.

Are there settings I can do so that IE9 is user friendly and I can simply type something and hit enter to complete the task?

Hello Miss, welcome to the forum.

Your system may be affected of Malwares. Run a full updated Malwarebytes(Free Version) ans look for the malwares. Also run a full updated antivirus.

Keep in mind, that as malware evolves, the product that worked in one situation, for one person, may not work for another person who seems to have the same issue. Malware authors can change their code multiple times per day. In addition, symptoms can be very similar, yet be caused by different forms of malware.

Post your result.

Thanks.
Arvin

Its not maleware.

When you type into google, I've never seen it auto complete in the search box, but just show a drop box

Highlighting and hitting enter, or clicking on the choice selects it.

I'm not getting the drop down boxes either.... but

My search box in the middle of my home screen Google doesn't recognize the "ENTER" function.

for instance if I want to Google "BOX": I type it in & as a normal typing reflex I hit ENTER.... the IE9 does NOTHING. I have to move my cursor down the word "GOOGLE SEARCH", then click on "GOOGLE SEARCH" with my mouse.

Is there any way (setting) to get the normal just hit enter to make IE9 respond?

My Computer

Weird as I'm only on 9, and it is just fine.

Hmmm. Have you tried in another browser? Like firefox?

You might want to try and uninstall it and reinstall the ie9. You can uninstall it through the add/remove programs under installed updates.

I uninstalled ie9 exactly the way you suggested. After restarting the computer I had to take ie8 for a quick test drive before doing the Windows Update to bring it to the current ie9.... I had forgot how luxurious it was having auto complete finish my exact thought! or better yet having the drop down box give me millions of choices. I quick typed something in the search box and I automatically hit ENTER and of course ie8 quickly responded.
I then did my Windows Update which found ie9. It installed. I restarted the computer. Ran Windows Update again which found nothing. I opened ie9 which had remembered & applied my homepage as Google
I typed something in the search box. Hit return. ie9 did nothing. I had to click on the choice to search for it to continue.
Perhaps it remembered an odd setting that it had mistakenly mysteriously magically switched itself to?
For the sake of technology & experimentation,
I have also tried the ENTER key on my number keypad which is also fully functioning.
I have also tried the onscreen keyboard on my touchscreen all-in-one (HP IQ804).
All three methods type in but all 3 ENTER keys do nothing.
Thankyou, I appreciate your time & thoughts.

Well thats unfortunte but positive.

If you still have ie9, go to google again and settings or this: Preferences and ensure autocomplete is on, then save.

Also try the little comptibility button in the address bar. Its the ripped in half paper looking thingy.

Hi!
Thankyou for your brainstorming & your literal interpretations!
I have autocomplete turned on & I have never made any choices in the manage add-ons box (to save seconds on your browsing speed) that shows at the bottom of the page...because I don't know what is important.

There is a ripped paper for this page! I opened a tab for my homepage & there wasn't one! I opened a separate window & my homepage still didn't have one! I hit the REFRESH [F5] and the existing page worked like a charm! I went back to the tabbed window and F5'd it... it had the drop down window of possibilities work for me... but using it without refreshing first would be my optimum solution. (sorry for the obvious sarcasm)
Is there an automatic Refresh option somehow somewhere?
Thankyou!

Doh, I should have actually looked before I wrote as I too don't have the comp view.

Well, I really don't know how to help you, and it seems to be a recent development, as youre not alone it seems.

Google search shows abunch of helps, but no answers.

I'm sorry, but I don't know how/whatelse to do.

Hello Miss, and hi to Arvinwebb and Patonb as well.

Please download the following VBScript,
and run it.
The script opens Google search page with Internet Explorer, and executes a refresh (F5).
Let us know if this gives some improvement.

I hope that this will help somewhat.
Kind regards
Sweet

Hmmm I saved your file to my desktop & when I launch the browser that way it works. Is that my solution to use it to launch my browser everytime?

My internet is pay-per-use so I try to limit my excessive waste of bytes but.... IF I were to stay logged in to my gmail account, my homepage of Google search works without any glitches until I log out.
btw I have never downloaded Chrome(yet) if you think it may solve my issue

Thankyou

My Computer

I can not say for sure whether Google Chrome will solve your problem, but it's worth a try.
I used it a while, and had no problems with it.
It's a much faster browser than IE, at least that's my experience,
but I'm still using IE 7, so I can not compare with IE 9.
I would say, download it and try it out.
Let us know how it went, and if you have any questions, just ask, the people on this forum will be glad to help you.

Hmm, Miss, how fast is your internet?

I think yours speed is your issue. If youre slow, i think it won't auto fill

I don't think that's a concern because if I do the refresh my browser is completely functioning zippy quick with all the perks...
I hate to say it but it looks like Google has a flaw/glitch?

My Computer

It is IE9.
I had the same problem.
Also had many others.
I fixed it by going back to IE8.
