IE9 won't uninstall

Good Day Folks:

I recently installed IE-9 to give it a try. I found there were too many things about it that I didn't like so I uninstalled it, supposedly including the items in the registry. I than tried to reinstall IE-8 but I keep getting a message saying that there is a newer version installed on my computer. IE-9 doesn't show up anywhere that I can find. It's not in my default programs listing, it's not in the Control Panel program listings, and it's not in my other uninstaller program listings. Can anyone inform me as to where it might be hiding and how I can get rid of it. I've tried system restore but I keep getting a message that system restore has failed.

Thanks for the tip Richard. I found it and deleted it then tried again to install IE-8. Unfortunately, I get the same answer: "Unable to complete installation. There is a newer version installed on your computer."

Here's a possible solution.
I haven't tried it.

"i want to uninstall IE9 however i cant see it in the installed updates section??"

If you can't see it under Installed Updates, run this command twice from an command prompt (cmd.exe) with adminrights [1]:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

this removes the IE9 with the help of the command line. Credits go to Nadine K. (German MS Support Engineer).

Nice try Ardneh, but it still didn't solve the problem. I guess I'll resort to the old tried and true and reinstall the O/S. I've had to do this with other Microsoft installations, with Nero, Roxio, Yahoo, Apple, and Google. I can do it in my sleep. Thanks for the information. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

No dont reinstall the system, worst case scenario, open a new user account.

I have never had a second user account so, after I set one up, what do I do to transfer in all my files and folders and avoid getting the same programs that I want to rid of? And by rid of, I don't want any trace of them anywhere in my computer, and I mean anywhere. These are Firefox which requires two reboots after I download any program update that requires a reboot or after I do a cold boot or after I install a new app or after I uninstall an app: Google which hits me with a spam window every time I respond to a blog site: IE-9 which I want to change to IE-8 so I can dump Firefox. Just in case you're wondering I have submitted questions to both Google and Firefox over a week ago, via their forums, since there is no way to access their support staff, not that I can find after hours of trying to get through. To make it clear: once some criminal organization starts to jerk me around I want all traces of them gone never to appear again. I fought this fight with Dell's legal department and had them stop plastering my screen with, what I consider pornographic sales pitches for junk I don't want and will never own, after I logged out of every session with the IE program that came installed on this computer.

Thank you one and all for the tips. They are all much appreciated. if only the forums at Google and Firefox had people who knew there stuff as well as all you folks do, this would be much simpler.
