When I try to open the .gov time webpage IE7 crashes--with Data Prevention Error. It is due to Java animation. I have the latest Java 1.6-11. Works if I turn off animation. I uninstalled and re-installed java--did not fix. Vista Ultimate 32 bit

any body know of fix?

Found solution:

Go to Internet options Advanced : Slide show

Find :"Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks"
make sure that check box is unchecked, Java won't work in IE with that box checked:

you MUST "right-click" IE select "Run as Administrator"once IE launches, go to tools, Internet options, advanced, and scroll down and remove the check mark and then relaunch the browser.

This check box will be "greyed out" unless you launch IE as an admin...once its turned off, you can go back to using IE normally.

Well time .gov now worked and Java Icon showed up in system tray--I had never seen it there before---maby because Java was NOT working in IE? before

This appears to be a bug in IE7-- should not have to turn offr memory protection to fix a problem--Hope the developers of IE 8 fix this! for those of you with input would appreciate you aprising them of this problem,

It's not a bug in IE, it's a java bug that hasn't been fixed yet. It only happens in a few lucky websites, not much. I would not disable DEP protection in IE just because of the java bug. You can always go to a different time site and see if it works with that one. There are different ones listed in this tutorial.

I have never seen the java Icon before for IE--Never in Vista or before or XP Pro--Are you sure this is a Java Bug? and how important is the DEP prevention in IE7?? Iam not an expert on this and would appreciate more info on this,

Thanks

Sometimes it shows up in the taskbar when you do something that affects it. Or an update for it. You can go to the Java console in the Control Panel and go to the advanced tab-miscellaneous and uncheck place java in system tray if it's a problem.

DEP is an important security feature having to do with memory usage.
