IE Window size?

In XP I was able to get my windows to remember to open maximized or at least full size.

Is there a way to get them to open full size or maximized in Vista? Every time I open a new window (don't like the tabs) it opens small (about the size of this Post Message box!). While it's not a major deal to make it full screen, I'm getting tired of it!

I did download (free version) TweakVI to get rid of the shortcut arrows on my desktop icons - don't know if that is a feature for that in there like in the TweakUI program or not.

I did try to search for this, but wasn't sure what it's actually called to produce good results (I got a lot of blue screen responses, so I know my search string was WAY off.. LOL)

Thanks in advance
Robin

Hello Robin, and welcome to Vista Forums.

By default, Vista should remember the size of the window as it was when it was last closed from the location (Ex: Start Menu IE shortcut vs Favorites link) that it was opened from. If not, then applying METHOD TWO in the tutorial below should help allow Vista to remember again.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

wahhhhh... I don't like this new search! Where's my helpful dog? LOL

When I put winver in the search field all it does is show me the e-mail notification for this post!

I did just find it-- I right clicked on My Computer/properties

(Vista Home Premium - 64 bit)

My Computer

That's odd. Try typing winver into the run command box (Win+R). Do you have indexing turned on?

Gary

ahhh -- Shawn, Grimace had the key there for me in the linked post (basically what Gary said) -- I'm using the classic start menu so I had to put it in the run, not the search.

I still don't get the new search feature though. I lost my IE icon from my desktop and was trying to find the right one (not the 'no add ons' one!) so I put Internet Explorer in the search for documents field and it OPENED IE. Didn't tell me where it was etc - just ran the program!

There is a lot I don't understand on this new format. Like how come there are 2
"program files" {Program Files and Program Files (x86)}

I've been on computers since B.W. (before windows) and some of the features here just have me so confused.

Plus my computer guy did some reformatting of the Vista program (removing all the extra junk that is default install that is totally unnecessary - went from 79 default items running in task manager to 39!) so I don't know what exactly he tweaked.

But another thing that has me befuddled is why there are two svchost files that are SO huge! (121,464K and 158,680K right now) I'd always been told that if a svchost was over 20-30K there was probably a virus. But these were that big out of the box.

My Computer

LOL, that would explain that then. :)

This can help show you more about Advanced Search that may help.

This can help show you how to create a new Internet Explorer shortcut you can place on the desktop to use.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68093-internet-explorer-icon.html

Program Files is for the installed 64-bit applications, and Program Files (x86) is for the installed 32-bit applications.

Your computer guy probably just removed or disabled some unneeded startup programs, services, etc... to have less running in the background on your computer that was not being used.

You can read more about svchost files here to help understand them a bit more.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Wow - Shawn - that's a lot of great info! I'll check out the links etc.

I did get the IE icon restored finally - I was trying to put one in that I made and I couldn't change the original icon - so I made a copy - deleted the original - then the copy didn't work right - so I deleted it.... hence the search LOL
But now I have my cute Mickey IE image I made (added Mickey Mouse ears to the e) -- I modified the Outlook icon too -- actually made my whole own Disney theme - I'm a WEE bit obsessed with Disney ROFL
I even made a .wav with the first 2 bars of When You Wish Upon a Star that plays when I get an e-mail. :D (using FinaleNotepad)
