IE 9 Beta

Microsoft is practically shoving it down my throat. Thing is, I am absolutely happy with IE 8. I tried it a month ago and immediately returned back to IE 8. (Now I don't remember why)

Anyone has personal experience with IE 9?

I didn't have any problems while I was using it, but it's been a while since I had it. I just wanted to see what it was like, and if it was different. I liked it a lot compared to IE7/8. I use Opera and don't use IE unless it's absolutely necessary, but I really liked IE9 and can only hope that the final product is similar to the beta.

One question though.....how exactly are they "shoving it down your throat"? I don't ever see anything about it unless I read it on here or on the 7 forums.

@MWRed.....Each time I log out of mail accounts (I have several with live hotmail), I do not get back my www.msn.com homepage. Instead I get another msn homepage just for downloading IE 9. I see this IE 9 reminder to download it many times a day.

Give this a try, when you get the page, go to IE Tools>internet options>security and and the page to restricted sites.

Hmmmm..... strange, it stopped. All day yesterday and so far today, I have not been re-directed to that reminder page to download IE 9 Beta,. And just as when I am finally considering downloading it again.

Too many complaints from spammed customers?

I don't use the web based live hotmail, so I didn't know, but what you're saying would kind of get on my nerves too, especially if I was expecting to end up on a different page.

The official release of 9 will be in a few weeks. You may want to try it then. I heard that it will have some rather awesome features.

Im going to wait just a short while after the release and see what the other Vista members think about it. If it is well accepted, I will get it too
What you have now is the beta. That means it has not been released but you can test it. Any problems are suppose to be reported to Microsoft. I dont want to have to worry about that stuff. I let others test, then I just enjoy.

When I tried it a month ago, I was quickly reminded of our brand new "beautifully designed" laundry machines at the basement. Yep...they were awesome looking but guess what?...they had installed lids with non-transparent glass. So now we could not see how much soap suds were in it. And everyone had one unanimous conclusion: designers probably do not do laundry.

I had the same in mind with IE 9: designers probably do not browse with IE.

I felt that way when I first downloaded and upgraded to IE9 Beta, but was encouraged when I had no problems whatsoever with the conversion. It was quite a different look than I was used to and it took me a while to find everything (they're in different places), configure it the way I wanted (which meant some research to find the secrets to adding things I wanted that were missing (like the menu bar) and organize things so they were where I found them to be most handy. I also had to do some work in options to revise default settings to those which better suited my needs and desires and update some add-ons - but once done, everything was fine. In some cases, I had to live with the fact that I couldn't make things exactly the way they were (but if I could, what would be the point of changing).

I now find it easier to use, faster, and I would not want to go back to IE8 unless there was no other choice (and so far, nothing has occurred to make that necessary). I've reported a few minor bugs, but they are either very minor or have already been fixed (presumably with an update of some kind). I don't often choose to test a beta product, but I'm happy I did with this one. Still, as a beta, I would not recommend it to anyone but professionals or people who don't mind and have the skills for dealing with problems a beta can cause. When the final version is released, I'll be upgrading within a matter of hours or days. I can hardly wait.

I confess I did not really stay with it for more than a few hours.

The moment I realized the magnifying lens icon next to 100% was missing at the right corner of Status bar, I felt so deflated, the same way I feel each time they upgrade the live hotmail format (each time it gets more tedious to navigate...are they the same designers?)). The moment I realized I had to click Page, then cascade to Zoom to choose magnification, I knew IE9 was not for me. I happen to really like to just click the Lens Icon once for 125%, once more for 150% and once more to go back to 100%.

Any other added more advance features IE 9 has are not justified...not with missing easy click once, once more and once more for magnifications (and that's why I thought these designers probably browse with Firefox) .

You can always just press Ctrl and roll your mouse wheel to magnify, or if you have the menu bar always on Internet Explorer 9 - Turn Menu Bar Always On - Windows 7 Forums
Click view, and select your preference.

In IE9 Beta, at the bottom status bar on the right is a description of the magnification. If you click on it, you can change the magnification from 100 to 125 to 150 and back to 100 - again, with just a click. It's not that the feature is missing, it's just that how it's accessed and where it is located has changed.

Upgrades and Ease of navigation:

For instance, Yahoo mail has all clickable buttons on the left half of the page. Live hotmail's are on both corners. Yahoo's Spam and Thrash folders each has Empty button next to it. Live's Empty is way up next to other headings as Send, Delete , Move to, etc.

And to think that earlier versions of MSN mail was so similarly as easy to navigate as Yahoo. But for some reason each time they upgrade, they delete user friendly features and re-arrange buttons to probably make them look evenly spread out for aesthetic considerations? The heck with easy navigation?

Yahoo also upgrades and each time it gets even easier to navigate. I am convinced Yahoo and MSN do not have the same designers.

@Derek'''

I was and still am.

The Yahoo and MSN mail comparison is just to demonstrate their directions in upgrading. MSN might be BEAUTY oriented at the expense of ease of navigation while Yahoo is the opoosite.
