Hi Clevo,
DVD drive is internal (was used with PC with XP, but this PC had served out his lifetime (HDD was too old and it died in natural dead)), so I have some backup info with important zip and rar files, so I tried to use it externally on my laptop with Vista. As I explained DVD drive works by itself, but PC with Vista doesn't see it and drive freezes after plugging it into USB port with IDE - USB cable. I asked my friend to check DVD drive with the same cable on another PC with XP on it. Works!!!!!! Excellent. But not on Vista. I can agree with you regarding configuration in BIOS, but seems for me, IDE-USB cable should solve this problem without configuration in BIOS, even more, if it works on XP without any configuration in BIOS on third party PC.
Info what I am looking for is on DVD discs and I can not read those discs also in my Vista laptop internal OEM DVD drive. That is why I started to run my old DVD drive with hope to read content.
Some guys told, that may be I should buy new IDE-USB cable especially for Vista. May be problem is in zip and rar content on discs. But my laptop can not even recognize this DVD drive. So, problem is not in content, but seems in OS.
Therefore, may be I need some drivers for Vista or new IDE-USB cable especially for Vista.
What do you think?
Thanks for replay in advance.
