icon problems

Your help please. I have recently been thrust into the world of Vista. I have a number of programs showing folder icons in my program list ( Avast and Google Earth for example) which show their commercial icon on the desktop-not all but some. I use Home Premium I believe.
How can I replace the program folders with the icons shown on desktop?

You may be able to use this to change the folder icon to a icon you want instead.
