Hi MCLZ welcome to the forums

Try this

Launch an elevated CMD window, ie Right click, Run as Administrator...

Shut down Explorer Process from the Task Manager

In the CMD window go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local
Do the following command: attrib -H IconCache.db
Do the following command: del IconCache.db
Do the following command: start explorer or restart

This should rebuild the Icon Cache...

Now that I can actually deactivate it, but everytime I open the explorer it will default to enable that feature...how can I turn it off permanently?

You might also look to see if this is the issue you are having to with the file names being set to hide.
