If i click on the button once, ill see my screen again but my mouse and keyboard still wont work so i have to click on it again. Also, i love vista, a new problem has occur, now from time to time my screen decides to black out for a sec then come back then black out as it wishes. Can anyone help me please? i never Ever had any problems with Xp. I tryed looking online , but they all speak in a foreign language. Thanks!

Is it a new installation of Vista? Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Did you buy the computer pre-built from a shop/store or upgrade an existing computer (ie windows XP upgraded to Vista)

Well i bought the cd around 1 year ago , it didnt show any problems back then, well.. it was kinda slow, i must of formatted twice or thrice. The only thing i remember adding is a 1 GO DDR2, its a desktop and i bought it at a shop, the only thing i kept from my old pc was a hard drive, everything else was new, but my computer is 3 year old thats when i had XP installed, if you need any more info let me know! ty

Hi Slix122

So youve been using vista for about a year, reformatted a few times during the time youve had it? Have you been updating your drivers yourself?
I find alot of problems are related to drivers and how they are installed, especially if you have installed newer drivers over older ones without removing them first. This is especially true of graphics drivers. I have a feeling yours is related to graphics drivers based on the screen going black and coming on again. What are you system specs?

Yea i was updating the drivers myself, i dont really know where they are tho, i dont know if it has anything to do with the flashing screen but i remember there being an update for Nvidia , was 103 mb and it didnt start so i clicked escape, 2 minutes later i saw my screen flashing, must of been a coincidence. But do you think that the way i installed my drivers affected the vista sleep mode too ?
Sorry about this, i dont really know a system spec is? like my video card name , mother board, how much memory i have and everything? is there a way to see it from my computer ,or do i have to open up my computer too see all the information? thanks!

My Computer

Hi Slix. I think it is quite likely related to the graphics driver not being fully installed/updated.

Click on your start menu and in the search box type dxdiag.

The Direct X Diagnostics tool will show in the taskbar. Click on it to open it.
Once the Direct X diagnostic tool window opens, it may ask you if you want to check to see if your drivers are digitally signed. Just say yes. if not read on:

Let the tool complete its check of your system. Its progress is visible at the bottom of the window above the help button.
Once complete, click on Save All Information button at the bottom of the window. i would recommend saving it somewhere you can locate it easily like your desktop.
The information from the Direct X diagnostic tool will be saved as a text document (txt) which we can open with notepad or wordpad afterwards.
Upload your saved Direct X Diagnostic report here so I can see more information about your system.

A second choice would be to download a tool like Belarc Advisor or What's Running. Both are free tools and give you alot of information including (Belarc) if you are missing updates. You can put a shortcut on your desktop to run it every so often.

Okay this is the latest 7 series driver for your card (in case you dont have it already)

NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL

Download it somewhere like your desktop where you can access it easily.

Also download DriveSweeper here and install it before you follow the rest of this advice.

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

Next, type msconfig into your windows start search box. Run the system configuration tool when it appears in the startmenu.
Once open, select the Boot tab and at look at boot options.
Check the Safeboot box, click apply, OK then restart the pc.

When your back in your desktop in safemode, open the start menu again and type device manager in the search box. Open device manager once it appears in your start menu.
In device manager look down the list of components for Display adapters. Expand it to show your 7600GT. Right click on it and and select uninstall. The unistaller may ask you if you want to delete driver software. Say yes and wait for your drivers to be taken off.

Once finished, restart the computer and let it boot up again into safemode. When your back to yourdesktop, run Drivesweeper. You will see a window with a list of driver manufactures and driver types. Select NVIDIA-Display and click on Clean at the bottom.
A popup window will as you if your sure you want to continue. Say yes and let it clean out residue driver traces (usually in system32 folder and the system registry).
Drivesweeper should automatically ask you to restart the computer once its finished.

After your computer restarts, run the Nvidia Driver Installation you downloaded above. Install it but this time, before you restart your computer, click start and run msconfig again. Go back to Boot tab and uncheck safeboot so your computer starts in normal windows mode. Apply and restart.
You should be good to go when it starts up again. You can access the NV Control panel by rightclicking your desktop. Run it and set your display to your preferences. The control panel usually automatically sets your screen resolution according to your monitors native display settings. Hopefully this should sort out the prob. Let us know how you get on or if you run into any problems.

Hmm nope that didnt fix it :( 5 Hrs ago, i left my computer open and i went to work, when i came back i thought that someone closed my computer because it didnt make any sounds at all! So i clicked on the power button and right after that my screen opened and the page that i was on was still there, It was showing the time 22:30 45 seconds and i was able to see the seconds go up and i could see the time on windows worked too but i wasnt able to use my keyboard or my mouse. With that conclusion, i dont know how but somehow, when i left my computer open for too long all of my ports seem to stop working but my computer is still functionning( by the way the flashing screen still happen , it seems to do that the first minute of when i start my computer.)

My Computer

If you followed the above advice to the word, we can safely say its not related to your graphics drivers. So your screen flashes everytime you turn on your computer? What kind of flashing is it? Is it intermittent or does it just flash once? Does it continue to happen afterwards or only once at the beginnning.
With regards your devices (keyboard and mouse) not working after sleep mode, Ill have to get back to you on that. Let me digg around abit see what I can find out.

UPDATE theres an article here and a hotfix by MS

yea i followed everything by the letter and well it only seems do flash 3-4-5 times when i start my computer but after a minute it stops, i guess its not really important, it used to do it more than that but it doesnt seem so, as for the sleeping mode i dont see anything for saving my registry, i see windows xp , windows xp familliale but not vista lol, its gonna take me forever to fix that problem, so many steps ;P
