I did something stupid

PTRMAN,

See if taking ownership of the C:\Windows.old folder and all subfolders/files with giving your account "full control" (permission) of them, will allow you to delete them afterwards.

Hasn't worked yet. I'll try it again soon in safe mode and see if that works.

I had problems with ccleaner on an old desktop, I backed everything up on my flash drive, popped in the vista dvd and reformatted it. I would recommend getting drivers first, though. Then if you have problems, just install your network driver and come on back here.

No. I haven't. I'll take a look around the interwebs to see if I can find either of those you mentioned.

FileAssassin didn't work. Delinv did manage to delete the two SecuRom files, but not the sfi.dat file within the windows.old setup. I did tell Delinv to delete it on reboot, so maybe that will work.

Thanks! 2 our of 3 issues fixed!

You can try this:
1) run command prompt as admin
2) try to delete the files manually like this:
Code:
delete "\\.\[path]\[filename]"
note: replace [path] with the path of the file you want to remove and replace [filename] with the filename.
I.E.:
Code:
delete "\\.\C:\Windows.old\Users\sfi.dat"
Be sure to input the correct file path, in order not to cancel important files.
Hope to be helpful
