hey,

i created an account here a few days ago and when i first created it, i could log in perfectly fine.

but today i tried logging in and it said wrong username or password. i was for sure typing in the right username and password.

the only way i could log in was to reset the password.

what happened?

p.s. this also happened on the malwarebytes forum(signed up same day as this forum) and i can sign into other forums fine that i signed up for a long time ago. it was just the mbam forums and this one

I've had no troubles logging in here. Was there any activity on either forum account between the last time you did login and when you finally re-logged in again (I mean, does it look like anyone else was using your accounts between those times - did someone change your passwords or post or do anything)? If not, it may just be some kind of coincidence - I can't see why someone would go to all that trouble just to hack into your forum accounts of all things (and then essentially do nothing).

If so (if you see a password change or posts you didn't make or a recent activity date when you weren't actually online), you may be compromised and should take steps to secure your system. Check the firewall to make sure it is up and blocking all but those ports you actually need (most people keep open a lot of generic ones they never really use so check and make it as tight as you can without affecting how you work). Scan your system with your security software to check for malware. Also check with the free version of Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes. I would also check any online financial accounts you have to confirm there's no recent activity that isn't yours. If you can confirm someone did gain access to your system, there's no telling what they can or will do with your system or the information they may have obtained from it (or when they may do it). How far you want to take it is entirely up to you depending on what you find.

I don't know if it needs to go this far, but if so, the following may help: How to report ID theft, fraud, drive-by installs, hijacking and malware? Security - dslreports.com.

To be honest, it doesn't sound like you've been hacked if the only issue has been access to two forum accounts (it's probably just some system fluke of some kind either with your system or with your accounts at the forums), but check things out as suggested above just to be on the safe side.

If necessary, we have a member who is a security expert who can look into your situation further to see if she detects anything - but I will request her assistance only if you find any evidence at all (besides the problems with the two forums) to indicate a potential problem.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Could it be an issue with lowercase and uppercase letters? My passwords have both, and I tend to use the left Shift key which, as you know, has the Caps Lock key directly above it. Sometimes I catch this key without realising it.

not really sure, but i know the day i signed up for this forum and the malwarebytes forum that i could log in fine to both of them the day that i signed up. but a few days later i could not sign into either so i had to reset the password for both forums.

but after i reset the password and changed it. ive been able to log in for the past few days without problems

i have no idea what went wrong but it got me worried. what do you guys think happened?

Some forums Have word censoring Modules were if your Password has a Word that is deemed Censored then it may Reject your Password is your Password the same on this forum as the Malwarebytes Forum

I am not sure if this Forum has one for I do not have the Privileges to Check You may want to PM A Member of Staff or an Administrator to check for you

dont think it has anything to do with censoring, but it was just odd that it happened to these 2 forums that i recently just signed up for. all my other forums i go that i signed up a long time ago work fine.

mbam forums and vistax64 forums worked fine the day i signed up but a few days later it did not work and i know i was typing in the correct passwords. so i had to click "Forget Password" and i had to reset the password through email. but now it seems like there are no problems with passwords anymore....
