hi everybody.
Ive got a problem with my PC. My OS is Vista ultimumate x 64.
At the moment I am on holiday with my family and i cant start my pc. Unfortunately i dont have my disc with installation so i cant reboot and repair my system. I was playing a game and my computer just switched off. When you turn it on it makes strange noises. Three sounds. One long and two short. Then it gives me option to repair it through instalation cd or start computer normaly. If you press to start it normaly it just simply does the same thing all over again. Weid sounds and keep restating.
I realy need to use my pc . So if anybody could help me to do something about this problem i would be extremely greatfull.

Tnx.

Hi Denise,

These 'noises' are generated by your BIOS when it encounters an error during the POST routine when you start your PC. These are known as Beeps, and yours of 1 long followed by 2 short typically indicates an error with the video/graphics. Make sure that your graphics card is correctly installed and that the cooling fan on the card is working. With a bit of luck, the problem may be nothing more than this fan requiring cleaning, assuming that it is an overheat problem which manifested itself during the playing of the game. Also, ensure that the monitor lead is securely connected at both ends with the thumb screws tightened and not just simply plugged in.

Hi Denise1956, overheating is the most common problem with Toshiba laptops. It usually runs ok at idle, but as soon as you put it to work, the cpu, the rams, and gpu turns into a toaster. So, I think you have just toasted the graphic module. Let's hope not untill you try to see if repair helps.

Keep us inform.

Hi there,
Have you tried when switching laptop on pressing F11 (or it maybe control and F11 together - sorry can't remember) and this will give you an option to reboot your system from the hard drive without the CD.
Worth a try!

Hi Denise,

As the others have already said this looks like a problem with the graphics and as it is a Lappy your options are very limited, the good news if any being it is new and still under warranty.

I presume you have access to a hoover. You could try holding the rigid part of the hose up to the ventilation slots with the hoover running at full speed. If you are lucky any muck and dust that could be causing a blockage will be sucked out.

If you are very carefull you could also remove some of the bottom access covers and try the same again, you might get better results this way.

Be warned though, that the screws are extremely small and easily lost. Missing screws may also affect your warranty I am not sure on this.

Do not allow the hose to come into contact with the innards of the Lappy

I hope this helps
