Please help...I have been using Windows mail for months with my ISP provided e-mail settings (Windstream) but all of a sudden I can't send e-mail anymore but I can receive it just fine. I have McAfee Security Center. I am in Afghanistan if that makes any difference...I get the following error message:

"The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '***@windstream.net'. Subject 'Re: days left', Account: 'pop.windstream.net', Server: 'smtp.windstream.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Sender is restricted', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78"

I have deleted and re-setup my e-mail account, I have restored my computer (Windows) to a former date when all was well, I called my ISP and they said a 550 error was a Microsoft problem...My computer uses Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS.

Update: Again spoke with ISP support...this time I got a more knowledgeable person. Apparently they updated their software recently and my e-mail address was automatically blocked for some reason??? They said I should be back in business later in the day.

I was having the same problem..I waited 24 hours and was able to send and receive fine..However my mail contact list is no longer active. I right click on action and e-mail and it indicates that I must make a profile in the control panel under mail..I tried this with no success. Let me know if you have the same problem

My e-mail has been fixed. It was a problem totally caused by my ISP and there was nothing I had to reconfigure on my end. Once they fixed the problem on their end all was good again!
