These are my specs

COre 2 duo E6600 @ 2.4GHZ
4GB of DDR2 RAM
Radeon HD 4870
WD 500GB SATA HDD
WD 80GB ATA HDD (for backups)

The problem is this:

I have reformatted my pc because of a virus and reinstalled Vista Ultimate (The first release) so I had to download the updates. I downloaded them from windows update, about 64 updates were downloaded and installed without problems, but, when the system restarts, the screen shows a message that says "Windows is configuring the updates" everything ok so far until... the blue ring on the screen freezes every 2 seconds, and it took about 1 hour to complete the configuration of the updates, after that hour, the message "Shutting down the system appeared", I tough it would shut donw at any moment but... it's still shuttig down :S it doesn't turns off...

I have posted this problem in this website too so u can check it if you want to

I believe that if your using Vista x64 ultimate there are many problems remaining as some of the software you were using on XP will definitely not work on this new operating system. I am also having problems, but I am now looking for software applications on the internet that are only developed for the new Vista operating system.
Good luck

Ok I managed to solve this problem...
After waiting and waiting I decided to shut down the machine by pushing the reset button, of corse, 10 minutes after the "Shutting down system" screen appeared, It restarted and then it shut down again, the PC booted normally and I managed to enter to windows without problems!!!´

Maybe it was sheer luck, who knows, but it worked...

I think it was caused by one of the updates downloaded...

It was -
you said:
10 minutes after the "Shutting down system" screen appeared
- that indicates it was trying to install the updates. If you interrupted this process before thinking there was something wrong then you interrupted the update process. Hence, letting it complete this time fixed the problems.
