HP 7350 driver needed for my x64 Vista

I cannot install my HP Photosmart 7350 printer on my Vista Home premium x64.
The printer is connected to a vista x32 computer on my home network.
When I "add a printer" and locate the 7350 attached to the x32 Vista computer I get stuck when it can not find the driver.
I went to hp and found that you can substitute the HP Deskjet 5550 driver.

Or I saw in this thread ??? that I could use the HP x64 betax64dot4.inf file.
My big problem is that in trying to install the printer driver I need to locate it from somewhere on the computer.
Does anyone know where the 5550 driver may be located on my computer. Or if this is not done easily does someone know where I can download the 5550 driver or the x64dot4.ini file> This way when I have to browse to locate it I will know where I put it.

I did that. I created it at port LPT1 on the x64 vista computer. (I of course don't have that port physically)
But the problem is that the printer is located through my wireless home network attached by a USB cable to another computer on the network.

I guess if I could go into the properties and somehow change the setting to locate the printer at the other computer's location I would be "good to go". But I don't know how to do that.

Hello Spider01,

All the information you need is in the tutorial here ...

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/195700-printer-connect-wireless-router.html

Thanks Barman58 for the response.

That is basically what I did with my laserjet 4 plus printer. I cannot do this with the 7350 printer.
1) The 7350 only has a USB connection and my wireless router's hard-wire connections are Cat5.

2) The 7350 is connected to a vista x32 computer via the USB cable in another room. That vista x32 computer is connected to the wireless network through a wireless connection.

My third computer (vista x32 lap top) is able to connect to the 7350 printer through the wireless network, but that is because it is not an x64.

So I am still stuck with the x64 computer (that is hard-wire connected to the wireless router) not being able to either load the alternate HP Deskjet 5550 driver through the "Browse" step in the installing printer procedutres or able to load from the x64dot4.inf because I cannot find it to download onto the x64 computer.

Hi,

Ok I think I understand the problem now :D

The 5550 64 bit driver is here ...

The original post from this forum is here ...

HP explanation of alternate drivers is here ...

WinRAR is here ...
WinRAR - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

Download the driver to a suitable location

DO NOT RUN THE EXE FILE

Download and install WinRAR

Use Winrar to open the clj5550_pcl6_win64.exe driver file

Extract the contents of the driver file to a suitable location, one of the files will be x64dot4.inf

right click on the x64dot4.inf and select install.

when the printer is installed redirect the printer port to the correct network location as you did with the x86 vista

A little involved but hopefully that will complete the install and allow you to print

Thanks. That sounds good. I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.

The download that is available at that link no longer contains the x64dot4.inf file and the inf file that is in that file does not help the situation. Any suggestions for Vista x64?

BTW, Windows 7 requires no intervention at all - it just sees that it already has a driver and installs it on its own (though it does take several minutes for some reason).
