How to play sound on TV? (solved)

System: Vista Home Premium 32bit

I am currently displaying my computer monitor on my TV. I am using HDMI output from my computer, and DVI input on my TV. The problem is that I cannot hear sound from the TV--it's still coming my from my computer speakers.

My computer has a manual entitled "Important Audio Settings." It reads as follows:

To set S/PDIF as your default audio playback device, follow these steps:
1. Select Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound icon.
2. Select the Playback tab.
3. Select S/PDIF Interface > Set Default, and then click OK.
4. Start QuickPlay (or restart it if it is already running), and you should hear audio on your device.

My problem is that I do not have the option "S/PDIF Interface" in my Playback tab.
I found a website that suggested right-clicking the white area and checking "show disabled devices," but it's still not showing up! How can I get this option to appear?

Please help me. Thank you.

EDIT: I received a response on a separate forum:

HDMI handles digital audio - DVI does not. There's your problem. You'll need to run a separate audio cable from your computer to your television (or home theatre) in order to get sound.
Ah, of course. I guess I should have looked at those red and white audio ports right next to the DVI port on my TV. I hooked up some audio cables and it's finally working. Awesome. Thanks a lot.
Problem solved.
