Initially I could still start the machine in Safe Mode & Safe Mode with Networking but with only one of the 4 screens connected get s a signal but now that doesn't work either anymore. All I now can do is starting machine in "Advanced Boot Options" screen but "Safe Mode" doesn't seem to work. Other option available are

Enable Boot Logging,
Enabale low-resolution video (640-480)

Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable Automatic restart on system failure, and

Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

What is causing this problem and what would resolve it?

Thanks

Welcome
You had a BSOD. I would normally help you; but special software is needed and I am not home. Follow these instructions and I will get someone from the Seven Forums to help you.
Dont worry, I will get you one of the best and you will be up and running, soon.
Based upon the little that you have given it could be something as simple as your graphics driver. Why not check that out while you wait. Make sure your grahics driver is up to date, per the device manager

Thanks for your response. I am afraid it doesn't look like I can download any files as I can't even start in "Safe Mode with Networking".
When start the machine I get message that machine and usual options to start windows. When choosing Safe Mode, I can see prompts with files and after a few seconds the list stops and screen goes dark with blue vertical lines.
That is all I have at the moment :(
Help would be much appreciated.

How does one create a recovery disk if I can't get start the operating system, normalk or safe mode?
When starting normal the screen goes blank (dark) and in Safe Mode it seems to get interrupted and stalls.

I assumed that you could get another computer; beg borrow or ....

Not sure I understand? I use another computer (old pc running XP) for this communication but can't access/start the Vista machine which crashed. I also have a laptop running Vista Home. Don't understand how those machines can help resolving problem with the Vista machine I use for my work. I primarily run financial charting platforms for eSignal on it (4 screens). Can't run that properly on the other machines. :-(

OK I understand now
If you put the recovery CD into the CD drive, you may be able to boot from the DVD to the repair function. If not, we can try other methods.
It may not, but lets try.
If we can get to safe mode, again, we may be able to get you going.

Ill start over
My first post tells how to create a recovery DVD.
Create and then see if you can boot from it. If you can we can get to safe mode and possibly system resotore and a lot of other options.

Ok, I managed to create the recovery CD (took a long time to down load) and have loaded on the machine. I have the window open which reads:

"Install Now"

and on left bottom

"What to know before installing Windows

Repair your computer"

What would you recommend me to do now?

My Computer

The repair your computer option should only be available if you have a recovery partition. If you do and you select that option, you go back to the way the computer was the day you took it home. No documents, no pics, none of your stuff will be there and no updates or SPs
It you are OK with this go with repair,

Is your stuff important to you?

I have followed instructions from the link you suggest but starting by clicking "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer" doesn't get me to the next screen as suggested on the How - to Geek page? Should I press another key like f8 or f4 or so?

My Computer

That link has worked before, except in one situation, you may be the second. I am reluctant to tell you what to do at this juncture, since the preservation of your doucments is my priority.
I will try to post additional methods shortly. I am not at home and do not have ready access to my favorites and other solutions.
