Solved how do i know if i have 32 bit or 64 bit pc?

I m using 32 bit since last 5-6 yrs but now its time to move to 64 bit. I will download windows 7 build 7100 today. But how do i know if i have a 32 bit or 64 bit pc?

I checked it in system information and it shows x86 based pc but i assume its because i have installed vista 32 bit on it.

Also, if i try to run wubi installer to install ubuntu, it automatically tries to download 64 bit version. Does it mean my pc is 64 bit?


my system: core2duo T5550 @1.83 ghz
2 gb ram, intel g 965 motherboard(its a laptop).

Hello Kavita,

The Intel Dual Core T550 CPU is a 64-bit CPU, so you can install a Windows 7 64- bit version if you like to. Just make sure that you have 64-bit drivers available for all of your devices though.

Even though Windows 7 is not as Resource HOg as Vista is, I would be careful choosing the 64 bit version instead of the 32 since you have a very small processor and 2GBs of Ram only.

Then again, this is just a beta build and you can uninstall and install as many times as you want so... Go ahead.

I also want to know if i can have 4 GB RAM. When i open memory lid, it has 2 slots in which i have installed 1 GB in each slot. Is there a way to find out how much does it support? I really want to say GOODBYE to 32 bit and will soon install 64 bit vista or 7 but want to upgrade RAM so that it works smoothly.
