hi my name is momin and im new to vista forums. I own windows xp and have it from 2006. i am thinking of upgrading to vista home premium. I ran the upgrade advisor and it said that i would have to update my video card since it doesn't support aero. i already have windows blinds and i tried an aero ultimate theme by fedia and aero worked fine. Fedia fedia also said that if u do not c transparent that means ur video card cannot support aero. however for me i saw the aero and experienced it so i was a little:S. I ran the upgrade advisor again and it told me that my system would support aero so now i am :S. I am very confused if i should upgrade or not and if my system would support windows home premium. plz help me out
It largely depends on the specs of your model of graphics card, but this is the list of requirements for Aero to work in Vista:
Windows Vista Basic does not support Aero.
1 GHz 32 bit or 64 bit CPU processor.
The computer needs at least 1 GB of RAM.
A graphics card with support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB of memory.
The graphics card must support Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware.
The graphics card driver must support Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM)
The computer display color depth must be set to 32 bits per pixel.
hey shawn thnx alot for your help here are my computer's technical details and please predict if you think that i would be better off without vista or my computer can support vista
2.66 GHz
1.00 GB of RAM
32 bit
My graphic card i think is ( i got this off device manager display adapters)
RAEDON X300 SE 128MB Hyper memory
RAEDON X300 SE 128MB Hyper memory Secondary
these r the devices under display adapters

According to your graphics cards specs at the ATI website, your card will just meet the requirements to support Aero. Just do not expect to be able to play games with the graphic details cranked up though.
I would recommend that you would add at least 1 GB more of RAM to help improve your computer's performance with Vista, but you should be fine as long as you do not need it for anything real demanding.
alright thnx alot for your help shawn. i guess i will switch to vista. I really dont care about the aero experience, i just want the media center:P cuz i like taking pictures and i also download movies
