Running Vista Home and for the past few days I can't play any Youtube videos. My granddaughter is 2 and I play them for it and she was upset because in the middle of OldMacDonald the picture falters and the sound crackles... we had to stop it gets so bad.

What do you think is the problem?

Hi Barbee,

To isolate the cause of the issue, I have few questions for you:

1. Any error message is seen while playing a video on YouTube?
2. Did you try to check in any other browser (if available)?
3. Have you tried to restart the computer and check if the video is working again?

For any clarifications feel free to contact me.

Hi Barbee,

Try to Perform System Restore (only if Software Configuration Changes were made) providing the link for your reference: System Restore - Microsoft Windows

NOTE: With system restore you will not lose any data from the computer, any new programs installed in the computer you would need to reinstall the programs back on the computer.

Please post the results.

I did not install anything new except the scheduled updates from Microsoft. I was using Firefox but it crackles and falters on Chrome as well. I tried to d/l an update of Flash but it told me the one I have is newer so I did not install.

Only Adobe REader is on this list. I did a search for Adobe Flash and nothing came up. When I Google Adobe Flash with Chrome it tells me:

Your Google Chrome browser already includes Adobe® Flash® Player built-in. Google Chrome will automatically update when new versions of Flash Player are available.

Hi Barbee,

Create a new user account and ensure that it is an Administrator account and check if the issue is persists in the new account. Please use the following link for detailed instructions to create a new user account: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/93009-user-account-create.html

If issue persists, perform the system restore on the computer to an earlier date, because there might also be an update which could cause the issue.

Please post the results.

That didnt work and restore said there was no files to restore. I guess I never set it. It can't be Adobe Flash because it happens with Chrome. What can it be? It also happens on Words With Friends on Facebook and any video's from email. This is a bummer.

I think you may find that YouTube video response is a little better in IE9 (Internet Explorer 9). I was using Chrome for quite a long time, but recent versions have disturbed video streaming. IE9 works better.

IE9 does have a pop-up blocker, so be sure you have it enabled. :)
And thanks for the rep! :D

A lot of things bother me about IE for instance. I picked up a malware somewhere and it kept changing my home page... so I decided to delete IE and redownload it. I can't... the program will not let me delete it. It's my computer and I should be able to delete what I want. Now I'm stuck with it. But I will not use it. Almost all virus's aim at IE too. The privacy settings are impossible to understand. I'll take Firefox any day.

Uninstalling IE will revert it back to the previous version. You can't remove it altogether under Vista. Yeah, there are some usability issues in IE9, but after you get used to them it's a good browser. Viruses target your computer, no matter what browser you're using. Just be sure to have a well respected and regularly updated anti-virus installed on your computer, and go with whatever browser you like best. :)
