Hi All

Newbie here, first of all thanks to all on the forum, my machine crashed last week and i only got it working because of the advice i got here!

Right i am running 32bit vista on the following: PCI Express mainboard SLI Nforce 650i(c55), 4gb ram with a 550w psu (dont know the make) and i have a 256mb nvidia geforce 8600gt video card, i want a better card for gaming and watching video etc.

Can you help, dont really want to spend more than £100 if possible. Also reading some of the advice here, will upgrading the card make me have less memory?

Thanks:sarc:

No.

How much graphics memory do you really need? - The Tech Report - Page 5

If you're running screen resolutions of less than 2000 X 1280 you would notice an improvement between your 256 card and a 512 card. You should be able to get a GeForce 9500 GT for less than 100 bucks.

Just don't play Crysis at some crazy screen resolution and you'll be fine.

thanks for this i actually meant £100 and not Dollars, im in the uk, also would you recommend a 512 or 1gb card. Whats better a 4770/4850 or 9600gt or 9800gt. Also as mine is pci express do they just slot in?

Any card with a PCI-E interface just slips right in.

I don't know anything about the breaking new video cards, really; all my information is old the minute I learn it, it seems. It is a matter of personal preference. If you've had nothing but good experiences with your product of a particular brand, I say keep buying that brand.
