Help with WMP 11

I am trying to open a file in windows media player and receiving the following message:



You've encountered error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.
Codec is missing

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Microsoft MPEG-1 (50) codec is not installed on your computer.

I have downloaded vista codecs v5.02 and still unable to play file. Please help.

Hi, my name's Cody, and I'm working with the Windows Media Outreach Team to help answer questions that folks might have about their copies of Windows Media Player.

If you'd still like to use Windows Media Player to handle your files, I’d recommend downloading a codec tool that will analyze your particular video file, whatever it is, and tell you exactly what codec(s) you’ll need to play the files.

Here are a couple of free tools that will do this for you: Gspot (GSpot Codec Information Appliance) and Sherlock (SHERLOCK - The Codec Detective - FREE Codec Check Checking Utility!) Both of these work great, and using these on your file will tell you what codecs you need to get a file running properly, without making you download anything that you don’t need.

A lot of times codecs can conflict with one another, and overloading your system with them is never a good idea, and can often cause more problems than they solve. This is a great way of figuring out exactly what your system needs to play a file without having to download random codecs in the hope that one works.
