Help with Windows Sidebar

Hi ,

I install a fresh copy of Vista 64-bit and every thing is working fine

after windows install all updates and become up to date my Windows Sidebar crashes and don't want to start

every time i try to run it i get an error message

and this happen only after the updates but before it it's works fine

so is there any way to make it run normally again ???

You could try a system file check

If those don't fix the problem , you could try a system restore to a point before you had the problem, which it would take you back to before the updates

Hi,

I assume you mean a system restore and a system file check did not fix it?


Did you try the repair install as well ? That would have replaced all the operating system files.

Have you added any extra gadgets? Tried removing all the gadgets and then adding them one by one?

No , I haven't add any new Gadgets

It stop Working after windows do it's updates and i have tried every thing mentioned by SIW2 and didn't work

You did a System Restore using a restore point dated before the updates and it did not fix the problem?

Hi,

If you did a repair install - that would have replaced all the operating system files. That must mean something else is running that prevents the sidebar starting.

You could try to start up using only only selected services and apps. to find the cause - this is called a clean boot and is explained here

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista

However, I would save the time and effort and just do a clean reinstall.

If you need to keep any data on your drive, you can first either copy it manually to an external hd , or use Windows easy transfer to move it to an external hd.

Alternatively , you can save your files into a folder called Windows.old during the reinstall. At step 10 of the tutorial , do not select Drive Options (advanced) and do not format the partition, just click on the partition you wish to reinstall to - it should give you the option to save the contents to a Windows.old folder.

i have done fresh installation for 3 times and every time after windows finish it's update i get this problem

this wasn't happen with me while using 32-bit edition
