help with vista networking

Hi All,
Am looking for some help on getting my new Acer Aspire 8730 working. It is two days old an am already having problems with it, or more to the face vista. I am getting horrible connection speeds and won't load 90% of pages. My xp laptop works perfectly fine. Even loading my routers(Gnet BB0073) web interface lags. If I try to ping the router 1/2 the time it drops packets the other time none are dropped. I have the same results if I connect wirelessly

To Date I have tried:

Disabling IPv6
Disabling autotunning
Removed Macfee
Changed routers
Changed cat 5 cables
Updated drivers(both ethernet and wireless)
Put on Service Pack 2
Safemode(with same results)

I've run out of ideas of things to try. Hope that you might have some suggestions.

Comp Details:
Acer Aspire 8730
Intel duo processor 2.0GHz
4GB ram
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
DSL connection
Windows Vista Home Premium

Thanks for your help

Go ahead and re-inable most of the things you disabled. They shouldn't be causing the problem.

The first thing I would try is changing the link speed on your network card. Set up a wired connection and then go to your device manager.

Select your network card and go to "Link Speed" (this might have a different name depending on the network card). You are going to be changing the "Speed and Duplex". Currently, it's probably set to "Auto Negotiate".

Change the Speed and Duplex to "10mbps Full Duplex" for starters. If this solves your problem, leave it like this for a few hours and then try something higher like "100mbps Full Duplex" and see if it stayes working.

Chances are your router or modem (or both) don't like Vista negotiating the link speed and will be happier with one of these standard settings.

Let me know if this works. I've got a few more tricks if it doesn't.

Hey eduede

Thanks for the post, your advice worked. It will connect at 10mbps full...It is nice to have working internet again...Although am curious as to why the newer computer won't connect at 100mbps where as the older one will

Thanks again
