HELP!!! with BSOD

Hi new here so sorry if i am posting in wrong place. I have a big problem both my hard drives have gone down at the same time. Normaly only one is pluged in at any one time. One is about 5 years old & the other about 2 years old. vista on one and 7 on the other both x64 ultimate. A little while ago some programs stopped responding properly and processer reading seemed low. I ran AVG scans & windows defender scans and found nothing.

I have a blue screen now reading technical information:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0xBF85A1F9,0xF76866DC,0x00000000)

win32K.sys - Address BF85A1F9 base at BF800000, DateStamp 3b7de698

Any help would be much appreciated. my full system is
AMDx2 6000+
ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE
4GIG OCZ SLI
NVIDIA 9800+OC
COOLMASTER 500WiGreen Power
Seagate 250 GiG 16bit
WD/Black 500 GiG 32bit

I am wondering if it could some how be my processer or mother board as i can't understand how both hard drives can fail when only one is pluged in at any one time????? please HELP!!

Re: HELP!!!

Hello barnestah,
This is the result of your bugcheck.
This is one of the worst kind of BSOD, it could be one of a number of things causing this and will require a lot of patience to fix.

STOP 0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Breakpoint in startup without having a debugger attached, Hardware incompatibility, Faulty system service, 3rd party remote control, Memory

When you say your HDD has "gone down", what are the symptoms, is it being recognised by Vista, is it being recognised in the Bios ?, can you give us a bit more information as to what exactly is happening, thanks.

If anything is overclocked, set it back to default.

Go to your HDD makers site and download the diagnostic software for your HDD and run.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates.

Take a look in Event Viewer for any additional error messages.

Have you installed any new hardware/software ?.

Disconnect any Blue-tooth devices and any other add ons you may have connected to your machine, just use a mouse and keyboard, nothing else.

Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found you may have to repeat this more than once.

Take a look at this, you may need to use it later.

Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Windows drivers for advanced users

If you go to C> Windows > Minidump zip up the files and upload them with your next post, you may have to save them to your desktop first.
They may provide a bit more information.

Some of the above might have to be carried out in safe mode if you cant boot to normal mode.

I don't think this is malware related, but run these anyway.

Malwarebytes

CCleaner - Home (Backup Registry When Prompted)

Hope some of this helps, good luck and post your results.

Re: HELP!!!

Hi Thanks for your assistance as my brain is melting with numbers that meen very little. Ok i will try and put the minidump files on from my vista drive/500gig in a mo. But just to bring you up to speed i tried re-instaling XP-pro onto the 200gig drive that used to contain windows7. And it formatted the drive and was close to compleating when it blue screend again. So i returned to my vista drive/500gig. This drive just about works in safe mode but only in safe mode? I have 182GB free space on this disc. No major changes have taken place recently that i can think of. It was over/clocked to 3.30ghz and that has been running fine for over 18months now. But i am running at stock speeds now. It dose not sound good to me.

maybe i should get my self a solid state for my o/s and pick out the programs from my broken drives? I still do not understand how it can happen across both when only one was pluged in at any one time? Could it be processor or motherboard related? or is that a silly thing to say?

Thanks

STOP 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Usual causes: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

As you can see, this one is different from the first one, but pretty much all of the above diagnostics will still apply.

Update this driver, its for your optical mouse. Db3g.sys, current driver is from Nov 2005.

Then update all your other drivers, sound, video, and chipset, and any others you may have.

Just for now, remove all your AV software.

Download and run MemTest. Run this overnight or for at least 6 hours.

MemTest Download - Softpedia

Memory is not referenced in the bugcheck, but this can be the cause of so many problems, so to eliminate it, run the MemTest.

If and when you get another BSOD, upload the file so we can compare it with the others.

I think this will be a hardware problem, not a software issue.

Carry on with the diagnostics in the previous post, good luck.

Hi thanks again for looking into this for me stoneys-nutz. I will try that out in the next couple of days and let you know how i get on. As for today i got a little cheesed off and re-installed vista onto the 200gig hard drive after stripping it all down. started of a gig of ram at a time and it seems to be stable with 3 at the mo.

Can i ask dose vista normaly take up nearly 80gig as all i have is vista 64 ultimate, avg free, graphics drivers and mobo drivers?

thanks again..

Hi again stoneys-nutz,

Just to let you know i reset my bios and removed some ram, managed to get my vista drive to boot. quickly updated the drivers you suggested and so far we are all good. used mem-test for said time and came up with 0 errors. A bit of a mad situation if it was just a mouse driver but hay touch wood all is ok at present.

Thanks so much for your valuable assistance, Think I would have been stuffed without it.

cheers again....... barnestah

Glad that I have been able to give you some help, so far.

Here is my suggestion. Use your computer, enjoy it and hope for the best. If you have problems, look at the time and write it down; do this two more times. Then type event viewer in search and make a note of errors that happened at the times that you mentioned. Lets see if they have anything in common. That would be the possible problem.

You can also do a clean boot, to determine if the freeze is caused by a program that starts at boot.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

I think, however, that Stoney has covered most of the potential problem areas.

Try running the machine with only one stick of ram, if all goes well, swap the sticks over and see what happens, if with the first stick you get a BSOD, then swap the sticks.
Let us know how it goes.

This one was caused by a driver.
Upload the dump file and we may be able to tell you which driver was the culprit.
If that information is not in the dump file then you will have to run driver verifier to find it.

STOP 0x000000C4: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION

I would take a look at this, just in case you need to use it.
