Help!! New computer-importing mail problems

I was using Vista and Windows mail and now have Windows 7 and want to import my email to Windows Live Mail. I have followed the instructions to store e mail forders on desktop in a folder and have I imported into storage folders in Windows live mail and recreated the archive in live mail too.
I can't send or receive any messages and I am getting a message saying some error occured, unable to send/receive messages from the blueyonder.co.uk a/c. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible cause for this include server problems, network problems.
I have just sent a message from windows mail to live mail that did arrive but I can't send anything from live mail. Message said Windows live mail error id.
It's so frostrating being unable to do what seems like should be straightforward?

Check your settings in Live mail to be sure they have been imported properley.
These include the ports used for sending and receiving also the pop3 and smtp settings.

Windows mail to Live mail problems

Not sure if this is the place to post this but I am sure looking for some help. I have a new computer and I am trying to import my mail from the old computer that operated vista to new that has Windows 7.At this point I am getting error message 0X800CCC08 and cant send or receive out of Windows live but can send out of Windows mail.I have checked with Virgin media and the settings are correct.It is SO frustrating but yet it can't be too difficult to fix, only I don't know how?

Looking into this error code all that has come up is Invalid State. (0X800CCC08)

The only solution I have found that may work is to try changing your smtp port from 26 to 25. Looking at the virgin media database the port is 465. You could try this port.

There is no information on google that can help. There are plenty of websites offering programs to download to fix the problem but I would advise againts using these.
