Hi lewismc, Welcome to the Forum

The problem here is that if you remove mediaring it will not remove the ad/bloatware. Try to uninstall all ad/bloatware that you can, in uninstall Programs

Go here; Malwarebytes.org
Down load and Install Malwarebytes, after the install run the program, go to the update tab and update it then do a full scan, if it finds any malware follow the instructions to remove it.

Next

Take note of the program names from the ad/bloatware that still starts.

Click on the start orb, type msconfig in the Start Search click on msconfig.exe accept the UAC prompt, click on the Startup tab and remove the tick from all programs that you do not want to start with the computer. This may take some trial and error to get the right startup Programs, everytime you remove something you will have to do a New Start to see what has changed, so it is best to remove the Programs one or two at a time. If you turn off something that you need, then you can simply replace the tick on the next restart, after going back to msconfig.

Click on the Services tab, put a tick in the box Hide all Microsoft services You can now turn off the services that are left showing this may take some trial and error to get the right services, everytime you remove things you will have to do a New Start to see what has changed so it is best to remove the services one or two at a time. If you turn off something that you need, then you can simply replace the tick on the next restart.
NOTE after every New Start when you go back to msconfig You will need to put a tick in the box to hide the Microsoft Services, failure to do so could cause your computer to not Boot

After you have done all this reply to the forum, let us know how you have gotten on. Hopefully most problems will be gone and we can then concentrate on any that are left including getting rid of mediaring and any other programs that are still causing trouble.

I hope this helps

Pooch

Malwarebytes is good- but it is only designed for polymorphic trojans. It is not meant to be used as a standalone, and is not very effective against other malware threats.
Whatever you do, DO NOT download the "mediaring removal tool" from the fake Antispyware 2009 site.

Try Avast!, Avira, or NOD32 4 Antivirus (antivirus and antispyware), and Windows defender.
SysInspector does a daignostic scan of your system, (startup/registry/running programs, etc)- anything in red is a problem. (green is good)
its part of NOD32 4, but is also a free standalone download.

do this: go to msconfig (type it into "start" search engine) then open msconfig - select Startup then disable all then click OK then restart computer then uninstall mediaring talk in the usual manner then enable all startups then restart computer

MRT wont let you uninstall it while its running and that's the only way to prevent it from running whenever you turn on computer

Please let me know if it works
