Help me with ReadyBoost...

If I add USB drive as Readyboost in vista pc with 2gb ram, will it show any visible difference in performance???


Also, Given to the fact that 32 bit vista cant use more than 3gb of ram, if I add 2gb of usb readyboost drive to a laptop/pc which already has 3gb of ram, will it work as if system had 5gb of ram?? If not, will it show any visible performance difference in general tasks, or gaming even though the system already has 3gb of ram to begin with??

Readyboost doesn't have much visible performance boost when you have 2GB of memory or more installed, Its still worth a try.

I have 2 GB of RAM and tried to use a fast 4 GB USB Drive to further boost my PC.
I have not experienced any difference. These days RAM does not cost much more than
a fast and good pen drive (vista will not accept any flah drives for readyboost so it has to be fast enough). I'd rather buy 2 GB extra RAM instead. Inserting it doesn't take
special skills.

Not really, but if you want to open some applications less than a second quicker, you may use it
For example, i made a test with a system with 5.3 index performance, the boot time without readyboost = 64 seconds, with readyboost = 62 seconds
With an old machine (index score 2.5) i had a 5 seconds difference.
Opening some applications will save you something like less a second.

If you add 2048 MB flash drive and use it for ReadyBoost and you have 2048 MB system memory installed, the total system memory wouldn't be 4096 MB. Because adding flash drive does not affect your system memory (this is the reason that you won't have 5 GB RAM in your case). In the USB flash drive Windows will store information (files) for your recently opened programs and those programs will launch faster. I think this is the use of ReadyBoost. If I'm wrong, please forgive me and explain the real work of ReadyBoost.

For example, Superfetch stores information (files) in your Windows directory to launch your recently used programs faster. With ReadyBoost information is stored in the USB flash drive.
