Hi,

I'm a junior in high school and I'm going to be starting to apply for colleges next year. Anybody already in college, and juniors and seniors in high school know this feeling. I'm going to need cash, scholarships, everything I can get. So, I've submitted my favorite YouTube video to Brickfish in one of their contests. Help me out and vote for it!

Vote for my Brickfish entry!

Thanks!
-KungFuChinaman

EDIT: I talked to Brickfish and I'm fully within the rules to submit any video from YouTube, so I'm not violating the rules of submission! :D

It's sort of a contest website. People submit works of art, videos, literature, etc and try and get the most votes for their entry. Usually, the rewards are $500. I found out about it when a buddy of mine submitted a photo to a different contest.

Thanks!

Cool, not bad. I'm thinking about going for a ROTC scholarship or applying to a military academy. Full-ride either way, the government pays for it. And I know that my grades are good enough. 4.0 unweighted GPA is pretty damn good. ;)

Yeah, I was going to join the Army.. I decided not to; mainly due to the fact I'm not very good at taking orders. lol

If you have a 4.0 you should just go to college with financial aid and register for some scholarships.. If you keep grades like that in college you'll be set already with just scholarships.. almost.. lol.. It's better than being in the military.. :)

Well, the thing is... I like the idea of flying fighters for the Air Force... But it IS a big choice. It's not just an education choice, it's a career choice. I know... I would join go for OCS and try and fly for the Marines, but I'm not Marine-class fit. I'm a little guy.

Don't go to college at a military academy unless your goal is a career in the armed services. College is half learning and half networking. If you're not eventually in the back of your head dreaming of one day being General KungFuChinaMan or Admiral KungFuChinaMan, there's no point. Military colleges aren't the best colleges; they're, uh, kinda crappy, imho, but for building positive relationships that will help you down the road within the armed service community, they're great. For civilians, though, it's not an option I'd take. I know a few people that went that route with non-military degrees and it didn't really help them because they went into civilian life and didn't know anybody because they didn't get the chance to network and form professional relations like a Virginia Tech grad or Cal State grad or Harvard grad could. I went to a military high school, btw, so that's how I know people who went to places like The Citadel and VMI.
