Hi,
I am new to this forum and new to Vista. I am not a whizz so cannot open base and take things apart but being disabled, and quite ill, I spend most of my time on my computer. I play with graphics and animate. I also make jigsaws, and am doing my family tree so spend a lot of time on the internet.
My problem...
My computer keeps freezing and it is driving me mad.Task manager has become my best friend!!!
I use incredimail but I have the purchased version and the vista edition so i think it should be fine.
It freezes on any jobs whether on the internet, opening folders, searching ancestry.com or emails.
I run regular virus scan, spybot and ccleaner. I don't download games etc as I try to keep my computer as clean as possible. Any help would be great but please don't get to technical.

Hi, valichari, and welcome to the forums.

I suspect that what is happening is inadequate ventilation - I think your CPU might be overheating as there is no one single activity that causes this, from what I infer - it is random and yet happens all the time.

I would normally suggest a spring cleaning of the PC but as you mentioned being disabled, you might need to get a repair shop to handle it for you....

My computer is only 2 weeks old and was custom made, it has been doing this almost since day one. It has all the same applications on as I had on my old one with xp which is still running, thats why i wondered if it was possibly linked to vista??

My Computer

If it is custom built then you should not be stressing over it - call the person / shop that built it and tell them what is going on - it is entirely possible they have not built is perfectly, and it could be a hardware issue.

FWIW - I don't have random freeze ups in Vista, and I have been using it since Vista was in Beta 2 in the middle of 2006.

Have you checked what loads at start up, and can you tell us a bit more about your machine like how big is the hard drive how much memory do you have installed, things like that can give an idea of any areas that may cause slow downs ;)
You will want as much memory installed as you can if you do a lot of graphic work, do you know if you have a separate video card and what it is ?

See if you can post back with as much information as possible so we know just what you machine has installed, if you need help with this just hollow and someone will be able to help you find out. ;)

Hi valichari, welcome to the board. Sorry to hear having problem with your computer.

Faulty hardware seems to be the cause for the random freezing, however, there are not much hardware in your basic system so things are pretty straight forward.

So, I would say bad hard drive or bad SATA connection or bad rams.

I would suggest you first ask a computer hardware knowledgeable person to open the case to make sure all parts and connections are secure. See if the fans are spining smoothly especially the one on the cpu heatsink. Push the rams to make sure they are secure. Wiggle and tug on the SATA cable connection at the hard drive. Replace the SATA cable with aftermarket one when you have a chance. Loosen or bad SATA cable is a known cause for random freezing.

If freezing still occurs, then move to check the hard drive and then rams with chkdsk and memtest. If no problem find, reinstall Vista.

Good luck and post back.

I have found that since I installed SP1 on my new laptop, it has started freezing when I am on the internet. I cannot close the page. and the screen goes white. I have to shut down and start again. Windows mail works okay. Does it even when computer just turned on.
I have a SOny Vaio CR series. Processor T8100 On Vista Home Premium. before I installed SP1 all was fine GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I hate those SP. Always some trouble afterwards. I bet if I reset my computer before SP1 it would work great.

Dont agree that the laptop is the problem. Mine doesnt freeze on anything else.
