Hi everyone. Just signed up today. I'm looking forward to leveraging all of you smart folks in the near future.
Last week I was happily using Vista32 for my HTPC when a friend of mine began singing the praises of Vista64. He'd been using it for a few months and was quite happy with it. He's been bugging me to switch for a while but I've achieved a high level of stability with Vista32 (and MCE specifically) and I had no intention of fighting with a new operating system. When I sit down to watch my hi def football on the weekends I just want my stuff to work! Media Center rules.
Everything changed yesterday when I was walking through a local Microcenter and saw a smoking good deal on a 4gb OCZ memory kit. After getting it installed I noticed Vista only recognized 3.2 out of 4gb. WTF!? It only took me a few minutes of Googling to understand what the problem was so after spending an hour or two on this message board I downloaded the x64 version from my MSDN subscription and took the plunge.
I'm happy to report that everything seems to be working nicely today (my first full day on Vista Ultimate x64) but I can see from other posts that everyone else isn't so lucky. I upgraded motherboards back in February and given my frequent upgrade cycles I don't have any peripherals older than 18 months.
My hardware includes:
Motherboard: Intel 975XBX2 (BadAxe2)
CPU: Core 2 E6600
RAM: OCZ DD2800 4gb
Video: ATI x1950pro PCIe
Tv Tuners: VistaView Combo DA-1N1-E (times 2)
I guess I'm fortunate enough that VistaView has good 64bit drivers for their tuners. I got Media Center working with little effort and all four of my tuners are working. The only other app that I need to work is Nero 7 which I purchased a few months ago. It worked perfectly in Vista32 and I used it a lot to edit and transcode stuff I recorded in Media Center. Anyone out there know if Nero will give me problems in Vista 64?
