Headset problems

Hi I have a plantronics 250 headset. Currently the speakers are working but the microphone doesnt. It doesnt even pop up in the recording window. They use audio jacks not usb. My machine is a XPS 420 vista service pack 2.

Do I have to download an exclusive driver for the microphone to work? I thought that audio jacks doesnt need a driver.

I also have a front and rear sound ports. The speakers work both in front and back but the microphone doesnt. Thank you for the help.

Hi,

Hopefully someone will come back to you with a better answer, but my Dell XPS 420 was supplied with a dodgy motherboard that could not support any microphone jack inputs. My inputs are just for show. This really hacked me off, as I saw no mention of this on the Dell site.
