HDMI Sound Problem

I built my own HTPC last summer:

Zalman Case
ECS A780 GM-a motherboard
4 GB RAM
1.3 TB storage

It has worked fine, both audio and video, for months with my 62" Mitsubishi DLP TV through the HDMI connection on the motherboard. I bought a new Mitsubishi 73" (WD-73735) and I cannot get the audio to work (video is great 1080p). I have tried everything, driver update, OS update and I have tried every setting in the sound area in control panel. It shows everything is right, no mute, driver OK, HDMI sound is the default even shows a sound bar jump when I move the slider up and down.

I moved the 62" TV into another room so I disconnected the HTPC from the new TV and reconnected on the 62" TV, everything works (audio and video), move it back and no audio .

It is obviously a problem between the ECS MB and the new TV. I know the new TV is HDMI 1.3 compliant but I assume it is also backward complient to all HDMI standards. All my other HDMI systems (cable, blu-ray, etc.) work on the new TV, just the HTPC has problems.

The video on the MB is ATI HD3200 and the audio is ITD, I updated both drivers to no avail.

Anyone have an idea why it doesn't work?

Thanks,

Hi Clancy52,

Unfortunately there seems to be an issue where ATI cards with HDMI outputs don't seem to work with all HDMI recievers/TV's. This issue has been discussed here - ATI 4850 does not recognize Yamaha receivers as HDMI audio devices-DVI instead? - Page 2 - Rage3D Discussion Area. You'll have to read through it though.

Supposed workaround discussed in the thread here - EDID Override Thread - AVS Forum

Also, in addition to updating your video card drivers, I would also advise you to download Realtek's HDMI drivers as well. Once you check the "accept to the above" box, click next, then click "High Definition Audio Codecs (software)", then look for "ATI HDMI Audio Device" and choose a site to download.

Hope this helps,

Good luck
