HDMI question

I just got a new LCD monitor for my PC that has a HDMI port. I have a couple of newb questions about HDMI on the PC.

1. Will the image quality be any better?

2. I mainly play games on my PC. Will using the HDMI be better or worse?

3. I have a HT Omega Claro + audio card. Will using HDMI effect this audio card?

My video card is a Sapphire 4870 card.

I virtually know nothing about HDMI on PC's. I really cannot get a clear answer to my questions using the search engines.

Thanks in advance.

Yes HDMI is much better. I have a 46'' TV and the picture is perfect...
Games near perfect...
Video card is perfect as you can get sound to your tv...
Make sure there is enough circulation to keep the video card cool as they tend to get very warm...
Hope that helps!

If it's just a PC monitor without integrated speakers, using HDMI will offer no benefit over DVI, or affect your sound card, as the HDMI cable will be delivering the video signal only. The same signal that DVI delivers.

It will however have better image quality than VGA.

THE HDMI sound output from the 4870 would only be activated if you were connecting to a HDMI device that was both the video and sound signal ie TV

Even then you can select which sound device you wish to use.

What HDMI does is simply to separate the lines of connections apart. The more separate lines for audio and video the better the quality of both. This is why component video which separates the red, blue, and green video is better than a single RCA cable that has them all combined. Even the shielding of that cable, what keeps the signals separate will improve the audio and picture. I run Monster cable 1000 series as it is the best quality but it costs a bunch of money. Even the speaker wire you run accross the carpet will pick up static noise if it is not shielded.
