Hello everyone

For three consecutive days I have had a telephone call from a company saying I have an online infection. The first two calls I ignored but answered the third. This company in Manchester says they are doing a survey in the area and I have possibly been infected. I can only imagine this is a bit of hard sell! Anyone else been pestered by a Company ringing you from Manchester?

Its a scam. They want to remote your computer. Please please stay away.
Might not have been the same company, but just had this same scenario in Seven forums.
Once inside, they have as much control as you have and can do or put anything they want.

I have not received these calls personally, however I know of many people who have, including my daughter. She rang alerting me of this. I have received calls from friends asking if this is legitimate?

As Richard states it is a scam!
I tried to get their telephone number but could not!
I have advised people to report this to BT, in the hope that something could be done.

This has got me thinking though, would there be a similar way to this at getting back at these people? Say for example, you allowed them access to a virtual machine, then you can capture their IP. Despite how much I would love to DoS them, its illegal in the UK Could anything be done with their IP? For example report it to someone. I don't know, its just an attempt to retaliate

Something like this I would presume is up to the Cyber Police?
As I understand it, a lot of these calls come from out of UK!
Maybe not all I don't know.

It would be nice if something could be done about these Cyber criminals.

However, we need to be more adult about this and find a site to turn them in not hitting their IP with a virus as that puts us in the same level as they are.
Let's put our heads together and find a site to report them too!!!!

If I ever get called, I'm going to put up one hell of a fight - I'm not quite sure how though

Noone mentioned anything about sending them a virus. Denial of service attacks don't involve malware at all

Meant to say DoS them........I too would love to pay them back in the worst way but have better things to do.
Off to the driving range and hit some balls.
There are so many different type of scans going on over here you need an adding machine to count all them.
Can't believe how many of our senior citizens are falling for them even with all the warnings that are sent out.

They may not be able to immediately come up with a solution!
But they could point me in the right direction?
I am, like you determined to do all I can to stop these nasty people?

A quick update as promised.

I spoke to BT today about this problem, and what could be done about it?
They were helpful and understanding, but the idea of a solution did not materialise, at least on this first introductory call.
Someone will ring me maybe early next week who is more in tune with this type of Cyber menace.
So I await the call!
Will update any progress, or otherwise.

Calmet get's called 3 times from Manchester area, my daughter gets called from, I don't know where?
Quite a few other people get called! You have a virus etc., or whatever the excuse they use............

WHERE DID they get your telephone number from?

HOW DID they know you had internet?

Two very good questions I think?

A further case for being more aware of downloading & mail opening, site hopping, to mention but a few!!
