HAL.dll missing

I have a laptop that is past its warranty from toshiba. Very shortly after its warranty expired, got turned on and at the boot menu gave a warning that I needed to insert the vista dvd and use the repair function. I couldnt find the dvd that came with it, so i went out and got a new copy. I did a fresh reinstall, but got an error saying windows was unable to reboot during installation, aborting installation. I formatted, and got another random error, so I went for a third time and it installed fine. However at the reboot to use windows for the first time it gave an error HAL.dll is missing. Who the heck is HAL, and where do I find this punk? More importantly when I find him, where do I put him because I cannot get into windows at all, even in safe mode.

You might have a bad installation disk or a hardware malfunction causing a problem. I would have it checked out.

According to Dwarf, you can find HAL in wikipedia. HAL stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer. What ever it means.

Might be a nice time to visit Wiki. I hope this punk is easy to deal with.

Or pm dwarf. He might know more about this punk.

Could you please only answer questions that you have a good knowledge of the solution, and never offer the solution of PMing one of the staff.
