Guest account logs off automatically

I tried to search this but to no avail,

My Guest and any other standard account I create, logs off automatically, and is not usable.

Me thinks that this resulted from my attempt to erase the password of the guest account by back-spacing in the password field, until no characters and hitting enter or whatever.

I still have admin, but no standard accounts will now work.

I have Vista Starter (waiting for Win 7)

How can I fix the standard account functionality?

Didn't work.

I can go into user accts using the admin acct, and change the password or even delete the password of a standard acct, BUT the same auto log off happens in either case when I go to the standard acct to log in.

Next?

did you try doing a system restore?

and how do they auto logoff?

is it after the screen saver? or after amount of time?

Tried restore, but again to no avail.

When I go to Guest and log on, hit enter, it starts and immediately says logging off.

I have no screen saver.

If I reinstall Vista, what is the downside?

if you reinstall you lose everything you have on there. but if you don't care than you have a clean install of vista

So a reinstall reformats the hard disk?

more or less.

you have the option to reinstall with out formating, but you still have to reinstall all your software it just keeps all the info on the drive and deletes your windows dir.

were as if you reinstall with formating it wipes the hard drive clean. <-- which is better in the long run.
