In this thread Everlong says that a 700W PSU would be ample for 2 GTX260s.

Since the GTX285 only uses, according to Nvidia, 22W more at peak load would a, single 12V rail, 700W PSU be ample for 2 GTX285s?

The PSU calculator reports only 623W (20% capacitor aging, 90% system load and 90% CPU load).

This is only a pipe dream though. I don't feel like shelling another $520 (+ motherboard) out for another 285 just yet.

If I was going to go SLI I would probably buy a Core i7 setup. $1k+ for just the CPU, Mobo and RAM seems a bit steep so I will just wait. My computer handles all games very, very well for the moment.

Thanks for your help, repped.

WOW. Considering that that $933.90 in AUD is $1299.74 I must say i am impressed.

Probably add another AUD$100 because everything costs more over here.

I think SLI 285's on a 700 would work.. but that 700w PSU would die within 6 months.

I am running SLI 260's on a 750w with a Quad at 4.0 and a Water loop.. and I think I need a bigger PSU.. so 285's would totally be on the edge.. I'd get AT LEAST a 850w to be safe. might as well get the Corsair HX1000

If he had an overclocked 4gig quad processor and Water loop, plus all the added stuff you have, than yeah...a 750 with dual 285's, or maybe 260's "might" be straining the PS....but since he's not running the config you are, a 700w PS would be fine. ;)

Just my way of thinking

Don't know why but I don't like Corsair PSUs. Their RAM is good but I am a Coolermaster PSU whore.

I am very picky with my computer parts.

I will only buy...

Cases - Antec
PSUs - Coolermaster
CPU Cooling - Thermalright or Tuniq
HDDs - Western Digital
Graphics card - Nvidia
Mobo - Gigabyte, DFI and Asus
Speakers - Edifier or Logitech
CPU - Intel
RAM - Corsair or G.Skill

Yeah, that's about it. They may cost more than other brands but I like all of the above and will generally only buy these brands.

As for the untimely death...

I would not be running it 24/7 nor stressing it constantly, via games or any other method. If I ran into problems I could just rip out my old (old meaning that it is only a year old) Coolermaster and go dual PSU.

NB: I have 50 amps on a single 12V rail. This might be running it a bit tight but I like challenges. HAHAHAHA
