GSvr.exe - advice needed

I occassionally get an error report directed at a file called, GSvr.exe.

I've found the file in my Gigabyte mobo folder. I've done a Google search and the results take me to registry cleaners, like RegistryBooster. As per the advice of many on this board, I don't want to mess with my registry.

What's it about?

Like you, Google gave me nothing on GSvr.exe; neither, oddly, did it produce a hit at the Gigabyte site. However, it might be Gigabyte's Dynamic Energy Saver? How big is your GSvr.exe? This "feature", tool or whatever you want to call it comes in a variety of sizes: 7.85MB, 3.6MB or 5.41MB dependent upon which version you have. You'd think a tool like that wouldn't be all over the place in terms of size?

The file is only 78.5 Kb. Yes, kilobytes! If I 'double-click' to run the program I just get a blank, DOS-like screen. Very strange.

Additionally, I just noticed that when I look in this folder in detail view the columns seem to relate to music files. Meaning, that the column info is not relevant to 'standard' files. So, the columns read: Artist, Album, #, Genre, Rating. This is very strange! I wonder if this has anything to do with the occassional problem I'm having???

No, that columns detail is being drawn from what Vista thinks the *folder* is - if you right click the file and select properties, you can see if there is any information on the file such as manufacturer....

Thanks again, John. Funny that it defaulted to a 'music' folder... All fixed now.

Call me dumb, but I still don't understand your problem (not that I can help, anyway).

The GSvr.exe error I haven't sorted out yet (I think)...or maybe I have because I just updated my BIOS and haven't had a chance to restart my system. Anyway, I don't get the error often enough to do a thorough troubleshoot. And it's really not my problem because my system is so new that I'll leave any extensive 'shooting' for the shop to carry out.

What do you mean by 'scratch' when you play music?

Lol - I think you may have meant to, and since Joe has the same or very similar setup he knew where the error was coming from...and I neglected to ever ask you.

Now, as to why you're having this problem, I think you had both best get in contact with Gigabyte pronto - you two cannot be the only ones with this issue.

I have the same thing happening here with Vista Ultimate x64 on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard.

I have found a solution to what is going on with this message if anyone is still interested.

This is what I have discovered. Apparently when we installed the software with our Gigabyte boards it also installed the Dynamic Energy Saver app. After some searching I found it on my C:\program files\Gigabyte folder. In the manual that came with the board it states that it runs in a stealth mode on our computers. I also found out that if you go into control panel\administrative tools\computer management\service and applications\services and open it. Now scroll down in the right hand window to "GEST Service for program management" and either stop it all together or set it to manual and stop it then that error doesn't appear anymore. I have noticed no ill effects from doing so. I have had it stopped for a month now. I hope this helps you all. I would like to know if you have the same result that I have enjoyed.:D
