Installed Windows 7 on my PC and whilst I like the OS , and will be upgrading once the retail version is out, I decided to go back to Vista ...(The Beta will just stop working on a particular date right??).

Anyway tried to install Vista this morning. I get halfway through the Windows is loading files then I get this message:

Windows cannot communicate with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while this device is in use , or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM that is faulty. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

Tried loading from both CD drives. Disconnected all unnecessary hardware.Still get the same message. Windows 7 installed fine yesterday morning.Any ideas?

I dont think you can downgrade from Win7 to Vista... you will have to do a clean install.

You should have created a partition to install Windows 7 on, that way you would Dualboot, and when done with Win7, format the partition, then unshrink the volume in vista to get back used diskspace.

Yes, I am trying to do a clean install of Vista.I put the disc in and I get the Screen where it says Windows is loading files. The bar goes halfway across the screen , then stops. Thats when the error message comes up. I dont get so far as to be able to format the drive.Ive just upgraded to the latest build of Win 7, (to see if it was a problem with some hardware on my system, that went OK).TBH I am not too bothered at the moment. Not having any issues with Win 7 ,but I would at least like to be sure that I can go back to Vista if I so wish.

Its the retail version. I have both the 32 and 64 bit discs. Both hang in exactly the same place.Win 7 burnt onto DVD-R works fine. Will try downloading a copy and see what happens.

Thanks, how do I exit to DOS. I have no vendor from which to get Tech Support. I built the PC myself.
