Getting mail back to Outlook after reinstall

Reinstalled Vista and now I've moved my stuff out of Windows.old file into my 'name' file on top of the start window.

I've found the Windows Mail file but can't figure out how to import it into Outlook. When I try to import I get a 'file is in use' message using Outlook 6 import.

Outlook 7 import option said it had imported it but it's not showing up in my currently running Outlook 6.

The Windows mail file contains a bunch of stuff I can't open but in a general search for "mail" on my user name file, I find [and can open] all my old emails..

Clear as mud?

Really, no one?

I can see the Windows Mail file sitting there but I can't figure out how to import in into the current running Outlook. I can also do a general search and find every old email but can't import them either.
