forlorn hope

Hi, I am using a 16-bit program from a small company that is now out of business. It needs to have 'SHARE' and directory path set via autoexec.bat before it can find itself and get running. Is there any way to do this inside Vista? I've tried using the 'old programs' wizard, but it hasn't worked yet.:(

Hmmm sound like you should use a virtualization software especially for such an old software. Maybe run, Windows 98 or 95 in a virtual machine with this software installed on it.

Thanks - virtual machine sounds like the answer. One complication - the program I'm using is networked to two other computers. What is your best guess, if I install VM on all three, will they be able to talk?

My Computer

Yes, you can set up virtual machines so that they appear on the network just like real machines, each with their own IP address. If you do it this way they can talk to each other.

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is definitely the answer. Just remember that you'll need to use a licensed version of whatever guest OS you install into it.

And if the VM Additions (supplied with MSVPC2007) are also installed, then the guest OS will function like just another application on the host PC.
