Forgetful or F***ed? won't save settings

First post and a bit of a rant. I've found a bunch of great help and fix-it threads for a bunch of the other WTF issues I've encountered with having vista for a month now. I still can't figure out why it needs 9 gig to run though.

1: Nine times out of ten if when I want the screen saver to work it doesn't. I set it for 4 minutes and it'll work once in a while, but usually not. I have to resort to the preview button when I come back and check to see that it's not doing it's ribbon thing, or any of the others, or any of the plus scr that are on the drive too. When I start it up in the morning the wait time has reset back to one minute, every time. I let this machine run all day as it's my phone too, which brings us to the next glitch....
2: Skype in/out for the phone, works fine, when I set my online status to any of the away/dnd/invisible for the evening, shut it down and boot up in the morning it always starts as online. Doesn't do that with my XP system.

Folder settings stay where I put them, everything else works fine like the sidebar, etc. No other real issues...

OEM vista, sp 1, just the recovery disk, and I don't really want to revert back to day 1 as it's at about day 30 now.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

THX Airbot, Yep, MS wireless keyboard and mouse and some bad gateway script. I'll screw around with it and see. Incredible.
