Font problem

This is a problem on a Windows Server, but this sort of thing is more of a general Windows problem.... so, onwards...

One of our servers recently died and required restoring from backup, which went almost perfectly.

The sole exception is that the server is now using Webdings/Wingdings for IE download dialogs and Windows security warning dialogs.

And I have not the slightest idea why it's doing this. I've hit the search engines and help sites and haven't found anything, and the Windows\Fonts folder is perfectly intact as far as I can tell.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hello Itwally,

I could suggest only one thing. Format, make a fresh install and then load your backup, because it looks like a registry problem that you don't want to start looking for. The same thing happened to me a long time ago with NT and I manage to fix it but after that, I noticed that it was not running 100% perfect and I've got a couple of hangs. Can't remember exactly how I solved it in the first place sorry.

Unfortunately, this little bug cropped up after a restore a couple months ago - so doing a backup/restore at this point probably wouldn't help.

Nah, this problem will probably be there for the life of this server unless someone actually knows the fix. If not... there are worse things than a few goofy looking dialog boxes.

Well, I fixed it. It's always something retardedly simple.

All I had to do was change the default fonts in IE. Note: they looked to be just fine as they were. But I went ahead and changed them anyways, and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Wow... it never stops surprising me. Why reinvent the wheel right? Glad you've got it ;)
